What is an ESL Program?

English as a Second Language (ESL) programs help students learn English as a second, third, or in some cases, a fourth language. These programs hire bilingual teachers who are there to help students develop their skills in:

speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills.

STRUCTURE OF ESL PROGRAMS

Through the breakdown of concepts and language rules, ESL schools help students become more fluent in English. Math, science, and history classes are usually taught in a way that is easier for students who aren’t native speakers. These programs are often located in English-speaking countries so that students can immerse themselves in the language. However, there are also ESL programs available in your home country!

Embracing yourself in a country where you don’t speak the language can be overwhelming for many ESL students; it can be disturbing because they cannot understand or join in a class taught entirely in English or in the outside world. It is common for ESL programs to have support systems in place that help alleviate these frustrations,

WHO ARE ESL PROGRAMS DESIGNED FOR?

ESL programs are available at many schools, ranging from pre-kindergarten to high school, from colleges and universities to private schools. Almost all campuses welcome students who do not speak English at home, international students, and students who genuinely struggle with English.
